Preserving Local Culture Video Project

Filed under: Community Service — calvinehigh @ 8:58 am

What did you learn by participating in this project?  What new technology did you use in producing this video (i.e. cameras, software, hardware, etc.) Explain how your efforts on this project benefit the community.  Lastly, how can this project improve?

  1. I learned about the slowly fading history of Elk Grove. I had the chance to use very interesting video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Elements and Photostory 3. This video project brought some attention to the very interesting history of Elk Grove. One thing I would do to improve the project is give more time for the video editing.

  2. By participating in this project I learned how to work with Adobe Premiere Elements which was awesome. I had so much fun working on it, and being to see the final product was great. This was all new to me, I think it was easy to work with because Tony was there to help throw the whole thing. I feel that this project will help the community because most of us aren’t really familiar or aware of the history of the Elk Grove/Florin area. The history is all around us and this video has helped enhance the little that is left of the Japanese American culture, McConnell Crossing and also the Central California Traction Railroad history.

  3. One thing I learned doing this project was that there is a lot of history in our area that nobody knows about. We used video that we captured at the sites and put together a short film that showed the history of each of our individual sites. what I did on this project can help the community to better understand that there is history surroundind us every day.  If i had more time to work, and available Internet video sites that are not blocked this video might have turned out better.

  4. As principal of Calvine High School I an honored by the excellent work all of you have done producing and editing the historical videos. Your work is truly inspirational to many, including myself, regarding the importance of creating historical records for future generations. A better understanding of our past will serve as a guide to our future. I believe our future is in goods hands with fine students such as yourself. Thank you for your work and dedication. PS: Mr. Lederer I am proud of your dedication to our students and the quality of instruction you bring to our school.
